Janna, a young German girl, is a zealous member of the Hitler Youth movement during WW2. When her family is relocated to occupied Holland she is delighted by the elegant house they move into. Her room is designed for a girl her age and the wardrobe is full of beautiful clothes in her size. Slowly she learns the secrets of the borrowed house and is faced with the question of war, ethics, and blind prejudice.
