Katie Meets the Impressionists

Part of the Katie series

Katie goes with her grandmother to an art museum and finds herself a guest in Monet's The Luncheon, meets a bouquet arranger in his garden, and ends up wandering into a theater (Renoir's Her First Evening Out), where she inadvertently walks onstage, which soon reveals Degas's ballet dancers. While offering an early look for young readers to the impressionist school of painting, Mayhew's own softly focused watercolors are wonderful. Creative tour de force more than succeeds as a lively, imaginative introduction to art appreciation.
