Lars, the Little Polar Bear, lives at the North Pole. He gets separated from his father and ends up on an unexpected and wonderful journey to the tropics where he finds animals and plants far different from his all-white arctic. How he returns home and the problem of explaining where he's been to a population that has never even imagined the tropics give the story a humorous twist. de Beer's illustrations dramatically enhance the story line.
